Ride Share: INSURANCE APPLICABLE
I'm Rahlita Thornton from the Thornton Esquire Law Group. Today, I want to talk to you about being in a rideshare vehicle. I had a client who was in a rideshare vehicle as a passenger, and it turned out that the driver of the rideshare company was responsible for an accident.
An Accident In A Rideshare Driver's CarShe pushed on her brakes too suddenly, and because she did that, she got hit from behind. Yes, the person that hit her from behind was at fault, but the rideshare driver had also suddenly stopped her car to make a turn. So my client was able to collect against both the insurance company of the Uber driver and the person who hit her from behind.
And mind you, most individuals only have like $30,000 in liability coverage. I covered that in a different post. In this case, my client had serious injuries. She had a herniated disc in her back. She will have lifelong injuries because of this accident.
Who Will Pay For The Injuries? So the $30,000 will be applicable for when she was hit from behind. But the rideshare driver's insurance company will also have at least $500,000 in insurance coverage to cover her damages. We are going to try to get something really high because, like I said, she has a serious injury that's going to be a lifelong injury.
I wanted to share with you some of the things that can happen when you're in a rideshare vehicle in terms of being in accidents. You're just being an innocent person sitting there trying to get from one place to the next. And then, all of a sudden, your life has changed and been turned upside down.
Make Sure You Know What To DoI also wanted to make sure that you knew that there's something that you can do, and that you don't have to be a victim. You don't have to be the one to have to pay all of your medical bills and pay for your lost wages. There's going to be adequate compensation if you're a passenger in a ride share vehicle.
I want people to know that. If you've been in an accident in a rideshare vehicle, make sure to remember that when it comes time to talk about what damages you've suffered and who's supposed to pay and how much it's going to be. So not all is lost in that kind of situation.
